Arnold Haukeland is one of Norway's most important sculptors, known above all for his monumental sculptures, which are present in most of his country's cities. He promoted abstract expressionism in Norway and his sculpture Air was the first abstract work installed in a public space in his country (1961).

Between 1968 and 1975 Haukeland lived and worked on Tenerife. With his wife Randi they rebuilt an old farm in Icod de los Vinos. The house, called Casa Randi, was redesigned by the renowned Norwegian architect Geir Grung to function as the artist's home and studio. Today Casa Randi is still the artist's studio in Icod.
